ART + FOLK is an organisation that aims to make our artist community more accessible to the general public.  It is designed as an outreach project and the intention is to become a resource to both the artistic community (artists, institutions, galleries, artist run spaces, collectives, etc) and to the people who would like to be more involved with art or who are looking to buy, but find the art scene difficult to navigate.

Even though ART + FOLK’s purpose isn’t to speculate on who should be invested in, its ambition is to create a collector base in Bergen and for that to happen, the art community needs to be more accessible.  We believe this project can be a way of opening up this communication and accessibility.

ART + FOLK is a long term project that will settle into the community and will function because of its collaborative nature.

On the blog, we will interview and introduce local visual artists and some of the different people who make Bergen the vibrant and rich art city it is.  Stay tuned!

KUNSTMARKED will continue to have two editions based in CM7 (headquarters to ART + FOLK, VISP/ and B-Open). One in collaboration with B-Open, each year during the spring, and one in the winter.

We have also just launched a collaboration with new concept store KIOSKEN at Magnus Barfot where art will be for sale in a context where design and art meet.  There will be featured artists on the walls, and a rotation of printed works by Graffikgjengen at Isotop, hand picked furniture by CLAY, printed matter by Pamflett, and guests designers showing the work, there will also be constant activities such as workshops, concerts, food, performances and other happenings to mix up a bit of what we all do, share our different audiences and see how we can interact. Official opening mid-August. More information coming soon!

New faces in the ART + FOLK team!

Nora Adwan:  sculptor and time based media artist living and working in Bergen where she studied MA in fine art at KHiB. She also works as an art educator and mediator and has translated and edited several books, magazine articles and academic texts.  Nora will from now on run the ART + FOLK blog.  She will be doing most of the interviews with the exception of one or two where I get to meddle, and we will have some great guest writers contributing as well.

Maritza Senneseth: Master in Economics at NHH and Bachelor in Business Management.  Maritza will partner up with me to help find solutions for the more commercial side of ART + FOLK.

ART + FOLK is run by Daniela Ramos Arias a Costa Rican visual artist and art mediator/educator living and working in Bergen and has the support of Bergen Kommune and Kulturrådet.
